Abstract

ABSTRACT newlineCancer is one of the most common fatal diseases in developed as well as newlinedeveloping countries. Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. newlineIn terms of loss of life from any disease, prostate cancer ranks eleventh; and it ranks newlinesixth in terms of cancer-related mortality in men. In India, prostate cancer is one newlineamong the five, mostly cited cancer in men and it is getting increased by 1% every newlineyear. The elevated occurrence of prostate cancer in India has long been linked with newlinethe lifestyle and family history. The survival rate of prostate cancer is 60 80% if newlinedetected during its early stages; however, this number drops to 30 40% when the newlinecancer is diagnosed during the advanced stages. newlineProstate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a serum protein that is produced by the newlineprostate epithelium to maintain liquefaction of seminal fluid. PSA was one of the newlinefirst tumor biomarkers to be identified and put into routine clinical use for screening newlineand diagnosis of prostate cancer. Studies have shown that above-normal PSA levels newlinecorrelate directly with prostate cancer. newlineA sol-gel based Nano-bio sensor is developed for the detection of prostate newlinecancer from blood using Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA). The main objectives of newlinethis research are to synthesize, characterize and optimization of sol-gel biomaterial newlinefor biosensor application, entrapment of biomolecules in the sol gel for thin film newlinepreparation and detection of PSA using the sol gel biosensor. newline
