Abstract
newlineIncreasing computational capabilities is essential for continued
newlineprogress of modern science and technology in all fields Parallel processing
newlinehas been recognized as one of the fundamental approaches to achieving
newlinehigh performance computing
newlineIn the past only a limited number of government laboratories and
newlinelarge businesses had access to high performance parallel systems primarily
newlinebecause of the tremendous cost of these systems both to purchase and to
newlineoperate Nowadays with the rapid growth of microprocessor power reduction
newlineof memory prices emergence of high speed networks and availability of
newlineparallel system and application software building and maintaining parallel
newlinesystems have become cost effective and thus attracted and accessible to a
newlineconsiderably wider range of users
newlineThe introduction of distributed parallel systems based on groups of
newlinenetworked workstations and personal computers commonly called clusters of
newlineworkstations has amplified this recent trend This study focuses on defining
newlinedeveloping and demonstrating software mechanisms for achieving highperformance
newlinescalable parallel computing on clusters of workstations
newlineinterconnected with high speed networks
