dc.description.abstract3D computer graphics applications use complex and highly detailed models. newlineComplexity of 3D data is increasing day by day with the increase in the demand of newlinerealism in graphics software. High detailed models are used by such applications and newlinethese models are too complex for the limited hardware capacity and take too much newlinetime to render and to transmit. Many applications in computer graphics and related newlinefields can be benefited from automatic simplification of complex polygonal surface newlinemodels. There is a trade off between quality of the model and the processing time. As newlinewe improve the quality of polygonal mesh, the processing time increases. Vice versa newlineis also true. It is proposed to address this problem by simplifying the surface while newlinemaintaining its quality. The problem of simplifying the surface with quality newlinemaintenance is analysed in this. It is required to measure the error of the model during newlinethe simplification to judge the quality. This work presents a fast and easy method to newlineestimate the error in 3D models through MAYA as a valuable tool for managing data newlinecomplexity. An effective algorithm for producing high-quality simplifications of the newlineoriginal model is essentially required in any graphics software. Surface simplification newlinealgorithm based on iterative edge contraction is presented. Main issue of edge newlinecontraction is to decide which edge is to be contracted.
