Abstract
Heterocyclic compounds belong to an important class of organic compounds, most of which are either part-structure of numerous natural products and biologically significant compounds or important on their own. Discovery and structural elucidation of these compounds started in 1800s. This novel type of organic compounds has also been found in various drug molecules as their basic unit. Thus, their synthesis and study of their chemical behaviors are of priority to the chemical community and have been commenced since 17th century.
newlineThe present dissertation entitled Metal Catalyzed Synthesis of Biologically relevant Heterocycles illustrates some of our successful and unsuccessful efforts towards the synthesis of some biologically relevant indole and quinoline derivatives involving metal catalysts. These heterocyclic compounds include bisindolylarylmethanes (BIAMs), trisindolylmethanes (TIMs) and dihydrofuroquinoline derivatives.
