Development of Control Framework for Power Optimization of an Isolated Hybrid DC Micro Grid Consisting PV Source and Energy Storage Unit

Abstract

Due to fast depletion of conventional resources and deterioration of global newlineclimatic conditions, the use of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) is becoming the newlineneed of the time. With recent past extensive development in RES viz. Solar newlinePhotovoltaic (PV) system, Wind Power Generation and Fuel Cell (FC) have increased newlinethe interest in Micro-Grid (MG) concept in AC and DC both mode of operation, and newlineSolar PV generation had become the most popular choice among all RES. With non newlinedeterministic characteristics of PV generation thorough study of dynamics involved in newlinepower generation have to be carried out properly. newlineDue to intermittent characteristics of Solar PV generation, Energy Storage newlineUnit (ESU) is prerequisite for reliable and consistent operation of micro grid. Battery newlineas energy storage device is the most suitable to combine with Solar PV generation newlinesystem. Estimation of State of Charge (SoC) and charging time of battery are two newlinemajor concerns for economic and uninterrupted operation of battery in MG system. In view of above, a path is opened to investigate and develop a control framework for an integrated PV-Battery based remote DC Micro-Grid model, which includes Power management strategy, ESU s adaptive control technique for SoC. Lot of research work has been carried out in past decades for optimization of PV generation and battery charging techniques. newline
