Abstract
Background:
newlineDiabetes causes serious global health burden, with cases projected to rise
newlinesubstantially in the coming decades, emphasizing the urgent need for effective holistic
newlinemanagement strategies. The traditional Indian systems, Siddha and Yoga approaches the
newlineindividual as a whole, rather than disease and can be integrated into diabetes care.
newlineAim:
newlineTo evaluate the effect of integrated YoSi (Yoga and Siddha) Module in the
newlinemanagement of Type 2 diabetes (T2DM)
newlineMethods:
newline108 diabetic subjects attending Siddha outpatient department, Govt of
newlinePuducherry satisfying inclusion criteria were divided into two groups. YoSi
newline(Experimental) group (n =54) received Yoga intervention alongside standard Siddha
newlinemedication while the Siddha (Control) group (n=54) received only Siddha medication
newlinefor four months. Both groups were advised on diet and life style. Assessments included
newlineBody Mass Index (BMI), Waist circumference (WC), Heart rate, Fasting blood sugar
newline(FBS), Postprandial blood sugar (PPBS), HbA1c, Fasting Insulin, HOMA-IR , Lipid
newlineprofile, Urea, Creatinine, Perceived stress scale (PSS), Quality of life (QoL) and
newlinetraditional diagnostic and prognostic Siddha parameter, Neykkuand#7775;i
newlineResults:
newlineThe mean age of participants in YoSi Module and Siddha group were 51.00 ±
newline9.31 yrs and 52.75±9.5 yrs respectively. Both groups showed significant reduction in
newlinePPBS, HbA1c, fasting insulin, HOMA-IR and total cholesterol. The YoSi Module, in
newlineaddition, exhibited significant reduction in FBS and BMI with delta significance
newlineindicating a higher improvement in fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, HDL and LDL. YoSi
newlineModule also demonstrated higher delta significance in psychological parameters such
newlineas PSS and QoL. Neykkuand#7775;i analysis indicated a good prognosis in both groups. Plt0.05
newlineis considered significant2
newlineConclusion:
newlineIntegration of traditional therapeutic modalities such as Yoga and
newlineSiddha demonstrated significant improvements in BMI, glycemic indices, lipid profile,
newlinePSS and QoL. Neykkuand#7775;i analysis indicated a favorable prognosis establishing scientific
newlineevidence highl
