Moench.] newlineDegree for which it is newlinesubmitted newline: DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY newlineFaculty : HORTICULTURE newlineMajor Field : VEGETABLE SCIENCE newlineChairman of newlineAdvisory Committee newline: Dr. C. VENKATA RAMANA newlineUniversity : Dr.Y.S.R. HORTICULTURAL UNIVERSITY newlineYear of submission : 2024 newlineABSTRACT newlineThe present investigation entitled Genetic studies in advanced newlinegenerations for yield and yield contributing traits in okra [Abelmoschus newlineesculentus (L.) Moench.] was conducted at Dr.YSRHU - Horticultural newlineResearch Station, Lam, Guntur of Andhra Pradesh during Summer 2021-22, newlineKharif 2022-23 and Rabi 2022-23 with the objective to estimate phenotypic and newlinegenotypic co-efficients of variance, heritability, expected genetic advance, newlinecharacter association, direct and indirect effects on yield and for construction of newlinebest selection indices. newlineThree best performing crosses viz., VRO-3 x 440-10-1, VRO-3 x VRO-6 newlineand VRO-6 x TCR-1674 were examined in the present investigation. One newlinehundred and fifty top performing plants were selected in each cross from F2 newlinegeneration and selfed to get F3 generation for the present study. Selection was newlineexercised in F3, F4 and F5 generations of the three crosses. newlineThe data from advanced generations of F3, F4 and F5 populations were newlinecollected on 18 characters viz., plant height (cm), days to first flowering, newlineinternodal length (cm), days to 50 per cent flowering, first flowering node, days newlineto first picking, days to last picking, number of fruits per plant, fruit length (cm), newlinefruit girth (cm), fruit weight (g), number of seeds per fruit, test weight of seeds newline(g), YVMV (Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus Disease) incidence (%), fibre content newline(g), ascorbic acid content (mg 100 g-1 newline), shelf-life (days) and fruit yield per newlineplant (g). newlineThe phenotypic co-efficient of variation was higher than corresponding newlinegenotypic co-efficient of variation in F3, F4 and F5 gene
