A System for Internet Roaming with Seamless Mobility Support in IP Based Mobile Heterogeneous Networks

Abstract

Wireless 4G networks exploit multiple radio access technologies including cellular networks, satellite-based networks, and wireless mesh networks and integrate them seamlessly to form a heterogeneous wireless network. The foremost features of 4G networks consist of all IP-based network architectures, higher bandwidth, global mobility and heterogeneous networks, support for multimedia applications, newlineand seamless services. The 4G network environment supports the horizontal handoff and the vertical handoff. The vertical handoff mechanism allows a terminal device to change networks between varied types of networks in a way that is entirely transparent to end user applications. Real-time applications running on heterogeneous networks have different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Thus combining Network selection in vertical handover with QoS guarantee is always a challenging issue. The network selection is the most important function of heterogeneous networks. The present research focuses on WiFi wireless networks and WiMAX mobile communication system to examine the challenges. It introduces a novel Vertical Handover Decision System (VHDS) to improve the transmission QoS guarantees. Initially the advantage of IEEE802.21 to obtain the information of neighbouring networks is taken and then the information is classified into two categories. They are Compensatory information and Non Compensatory information. newline newline
