Palaeolithic archaeology of the river Sher Central Narmada Basin District Narsinghpur Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

River Sher is one of the most promising tributary where less exploration has been done till now. Evidences suggest that River Sher has yielded many mammalian fossils and numerous palaeolithic artefacts. But recent exploration yielded fossils from the lower reaches of the river Sher along with middle palaeolithic artefacts and microliths prevalent from the middle reaches. Scraper cum borer industry is predominant along with folds of laminar technology. Cortical flakes are absent while the debitages are prevalent indicating on-site flake reduction. newline
