Induced Muta genesis to engender genetic variability in Apple cv Ambri

Abstract

The present study entitled Induced Mutagenesis to engender genetic newlinevariability in Apple cv. Ambri was conducted under two experiments viz., (i) newlineGamma ray induced mutagenesis in apple ( Malus x domestica Borkh) cv. Ambri newlineand (ii) Ethyle methane sulfonate and colchicine induced mutagenesis in apple newlineMalus x domestica Borkh) cv. Ambri, at the experimental farm of AARC Pahnoo newlineShopian during the years 2020 and 2021. Both experiments were designed using a newlinerandomized complete block design and were replicated three times, with ten newlinescions per replication. In Experiment I, scions were harvested a nd subjected to newlineirradiation at the Baba Atomic Research Center (B.A.R.C), Zakura, Srinagar. newlineFollowing the irradiation, the scions were grafted onto M9 rootstock. The Percent newlinesurvival of the irradiated axillary buds was subsequently assessed. An increase in newlinethe gamma radiation dose resulted in a decrease in the percent survival of axillary newlinebuds, while the lethality percentage rose. The control group exhibited the highest newlinepercent survival, whereas the lowest was observed at a gamma radiation dose of newline30Gy. The irradiated axillary buds developed into primary shoots, representing the newlineM1V1 generation. In the second year, primary shoots from the M1V1 generation newlinewere collected, and prepared scions were grafted to establish the M1V2 newlinegeneration. Lower doses of gamma r adiation demonstrated significant newlineenhancements in leaf length, leaf width, leaf area, leaf weight, specific leaf newlineweight, and petiole length for both the M1V1 and M1V2 generations of apple cv. newlineweight, and petiole length for both the M1V1 and M1V2 generations of apple cv. Ambri. Among the various treatments examined, the gamma radiatioAmbri. Among the various treatments examined, the gamma radiation at 10Gy n at 10Gy yielded the highest average measurements for leaf blade length (8.92 cm), leaf yielded the highest average measurements for leaf blade length (8.92 cm), leaf blade width (5.21 cm), leaf blade ratio (1.74),leaf area (30.64cmblade width (5.21 cm), leaf blade ratio
