Development of a Costing Model for Healthcare Associated Infections in Tertiary Care Hospitals and Assessment of its Role to Evolve Quality Control Parameters

Abstract

Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) are thecommon infections occurring in hospital set up. These Infections are acquiredbypatients duringreceiving treatmentin a hospital set up formedical / surgical conditions which are not incubated / present during the time of admission and occurs usually after 48 hours of admission and many a times Health care associated are preventable and reduced byusing appropriatepersonnel protective equipment. Calculation of extra cost is important for the patients, attenders and third party payers as per the ward category or the department wise to develop appropriate costing models related to Health Care Associated infections and these helps in monitoring various parameters involved in controlling the health care associated infections regular basis. Development of costing model helps to identify the extra cost, various parameters involved, norms and the development of standard operating protocols for reducing HAI in any hospital set up. Importance and the analysis of the costing model have explained in my study.
