Abstract
The border conflict in the state of Jammu and Kashmir (before bifurcation, August
newline2019) region has been going on for more than seven decades and has often been cited
newlineas an enduring rivalry within International Relations (IR) scholarship. Such conflicts
newlinehave been in the form of three major conventional wars and numerous war like
newlinesituations. In addition to these cataclysmic events, the borderlands of Jammu and
newlineKashmir (JandK), especially the Line of Control (LoC) region, has been frequently
newlinewitnessing armed skirmishes, cease fire violations and extensive cross-border
newlineviolence which have resulted in manifold losses, ranging from loss of life and
newlinelivelihood among other everyday threats and uncertainties as experienced by the
newlinepeople. The prolonged border conflict has its manifestations on the national security,
newlinethereby inevitably resulting in militarization and securitization of state s border
newlinespaces . This thesis aims to explain and examine the underlying human security
newlinethreats and challenges which are witnessed in the everyday lived experiences of
newlineborderland communities who have been living along the Line of Control (LoC) in the
newlinePoonch district of JandK.
