Studies on phase type deteriorating systems under varying environments

Abstract

Majority of the real world systems are subject to online deterioration resulting in inflated production costs customer rejects returns and unmet planned schedules Thus the study of optimal maintenance replacement and warranty strategies of deteriorating systems including availability is of immense importance The objective of this thesis is to make a comprehensive stochastic analysis of phase type deteriorating systems The thesis comprises of three parts focusing respectively on the reliability aspect warranty cost analysis and approximations of an availability function Primarily shock models are studied with respect to a simple system and a cold standby system employing a spare unit A system is subject to randomly occurring shocks representing an external process that effects system degradation and generates the failure process System failures have been modeled as a first passage problem of the damage process The maintenance actions overarch replacement preventive repair a significant milestone in the prospect of economy imperfect and improved repairs. newline
