viii newlineABSTRACT newlineThe title of the present study is L2 Motivation and Reading Comprehension of Post-Graduate Dalit Students of the Social Sciences in the Telugu-Speaking States: A Quantitative Study . This study attempts to explore the L2 Motivation and the Reading Comprehension of the Dalits students studying post-graduation in the stream of Social Sciences in the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh in India. newlineHigher education is a source of knowledge and skill development. The primary function of higher education is to contribute significantly to society by generating new knowledge and imparting it to the learners, making them skilled, confident, self-directed, and independent learners who can contribute to society. Dalit students who belong to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities starkly stand as a sub-group in the university students as they have overtly peculiar features that reflect their historical, socioeconomic, cultural, and psychological background. Higher education is a crucial requirement for all-round development of the Dalit students. newlineAs the present study aims to investigate the L2 Motivation of the subjects, here, the English language is to pursue and excel in the subjects study area broadly in the stream of Social Sciences. The study of the L2 motivation of the students includes exploring the nature of the L2 Motivation of the students for which the theoretical framework of the L2 Motivational Self System developed by Zoltan Dörnyei is employed.
