Abstract
The aim of present study was to screen the physicochemical and phytochemicals of hydro-alcoholic extract of various herbal drugs like Cajanas cajan, Curcuma longa, Piper nigrum, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Coriandrum sativum, Withania somnifera with anticancer activity and to develop and validate an RP-HPLC method for their estimation.

newlineConsidering the importance of the above mentioned plants an attempt is made to study the preliminary physicochemical and phytochemical screening and method development. The study includes preparation of extract by cold maceration process for detailed analysis.
newline
newlineDifferent physicochemical parameters like ash value (total ash and acid insoluble ash), loss on drying and phytochemical parameters such as extractive value (alcohol soluble and water soluble) are carried out as per recommended procedures. The phytochemical determinations revealed that all the selected plants contain alkaloids, flavanoids, tannins and glycosides.

newlineSpectrophotometric determination was performed on a Perkin-Elmer UV-VIS Double Beam Spectrophotometer to know the maximum absorbance of the compounds. Chromatographic separation was performed using merck C18 analytical column (5 and#956;m, 250 mm x 4.6 mm, i.d).

newlineThe method developed was validated as per ICH guidelines and the results are satisfactory. The correlation coefficient obtained in the calibration curve was gt0.99 and the
newline%RSD values were found to be lt2% for precision. The % recovery was found to be at a range of 98 102%. The %RSD values were satisfactory for robustness and ruggedness. LOD and
newline
newlineLOQ values were also determined. The overall result showed that the method was simple, accurate and precise.
