Abstract
The present study analyzed the socio-economic and political status of Dalit women in Punjab particularly of Majha, Malwa and Doaba regions of Punjab. It primarily examined different patterns of changes noticed in the status of Dalit women of Punjab, with respect to various communities, educational attainments and income backgrounds. The study analyzed the factors for their social discrimination, economic deprivation and political backwardness. To examine the intergenerational mobility primary data has been collected for three generations of a household i.e. mother daughter and mother s mother. Intra-generational mobility has been examined by occupational/social mobility for that individual female/household.
newlineIt has been concluded that the condition of the Dalit women is not as good as majority of them are still lacking in basic education, housing, job and land ownership facilities available. Majority of them have not been benefitted from the welfare schemes and grants and loans available. According to them untouchability is still being practiced and medical facilities are negligible in the villages especially for women. Dalits have the right to be considered as subjects rather than objects, they also need to be given equal opportunity to play an active role in order to bring a positive change in their lives and their issues obscured.
