Abstract
The present study aims to evaluate the levels of teaching competence in relation to teaching aptitude, attitude towards teaching and sense of responsibility among secondary school teachers as well as to identify the differences based on their gender, locale and teaching experience. The present study was conducted on a sample of 700 regular in-service teachers from Government high schools and government senior secondary schools from seven districts of Punjab. Major findings of the study revealed that there exists significant relationship between teaching competence, teaching aptitude, attitude towards teaching and sense of responsibility among secondary school teachers. Teaching aptitude, attitude towards teaching and sense of responsibility are significant predictors of teaching competence of secondary school teachers. The present study will be helpful for policy makers, administrators and master trainers in planning more suitable and effective teacher training frameworks (Pre-service and In-service), Induction programmes for teachers, Reflective teaching and innovative teaching etc.
