An Empirical Study on the Effectiveness of Changed Lifestyle and Eating Behaviour on the Life of Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Abstract

Background The Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a highly prevalent endocrine disorder among women in their reproductive age because of inactive lifestyle and bad eating habits. The actual etiology of PCOS is still not known. However, researchers consider environmental and genetic factors to be highly responsible for causing PCOS. Some of the common symptoms are insulin resistance, abdominal obesity and alterations in androgen levels. newline newlineObjective There are different objectives of this study. First, this study is aimed to find out the major causes behind PCOS which intensify the problem. Second, the nutrition intake of women is also analyzed which can help dealing with PCOS. Finally, this study discovers actual eating habits of women with and without PCOS. newline newlineMethodology In order to fulfil research objectives, this study is based on both qualitative and quantitative data collected through online survey and literature survey. Primary data has been collected through self-structured questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed among women with PCOS (treatment group) and without PCOS (control group). Stratified random sampling method has been selected to select participants by focusing only on female population. SPSS software has been used for organizing and interpreting raw data and statistical analysis has been done. In addition, secondary data has also been collected to review recent studies and find supporting evidence related to PCOS-friendly food, PCOS symptoms, and lifestyle and eating behavior. newline newlineResults Responses have been collected from 500 women in control group and 500 women in treatment group. It is observed that there is a significant correlation (plt0.005) between eating disorder and diagnosis of PCOS, physiological complications and diagnosis of PCOS, family history and diagnosis of PCOS, awareness of cause and diagnosis of PCOS, and symptoms of PCOS and diagnosis of PCOS. newline newline
