Abstract
Empowerment especially in terms of finance for poor and marginalized sections has been prime
newlineobjective of the Central Government during successive five year plans. Accordingly, in order

newlineScheme (1995), (v) Jawahar Gram Samridhi Yojana (1999), (vi) Annapurna Scheme (2000),
newline(vii) From Jan Dhan to Jan Suraksha (2015), (viii) Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana
newline(2015), (ix) Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (2015), (x) Atal Pension Yojana, (xi)

newlineMantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, and many more have been introduced from time to time. Pradhan
newlineMantri Jan- Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is India s national mission which has been introduced to
newlineensure financial services, namely banking services and deposit accounts, remittance, credit
newlineinsurance, pension in an affordable manner. This financial inclusion campaign was launched
newlineby Honorable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi Ji on 28 August 2014. The main
newlineobjective of PMJDY is to provide access to people to various financial services like credit
newlinefacility, overdraft facility, savings facility, life and accidental insurance. PMJDY is a mission
newlineto provide financial inclusion to all the people of country. The plan envisages universal access
newlineof at least one bank account to all the people of the country. In the present study entitled Role
newlineof Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana in financial inclusion: A case study of Varanasi District ,
newlinean attempt has been made to examine impact of PMJDY scheme on financial inclusion in India,
