Abstract
newlineThe main objective of this thesis is to study the role of media in
newlinethe development of Carnatic music. The scope of the study is limited
newlineto the propagation of Carnatic music through media and experience of
newlinedifferent personalities about media. The study is conducted, based on
newlinethe information collected through available books and journals from
newlinevarious libraries, by interacting with eminent personalities in and
newlineoutside of Kerala.
newlineThe media is a great boon for the propagation of music, it help
newlinemusic reach millions of across the oceans and continents. The media
newlineare classified in to Print and Electronic. Sculpture is almost as old as
newlinemankind and it may be treated as visual documents representing the
newlinedifferent aspects of life during the periods to which they belong.
newlinePalmyra leaves, wooden slab or plates, stones, metal etc were used for
newlinewriting letters in ancient times and these paved ways for the
newlinedevelopment of print media such as newspapers, books, journals,
newlinedictionaries, telex, facsimile, and internet. Taking of electronic media,
newlineinvention of electronic gadgets such as Gramophone, Tape recorder,
newline2CD, DVD, I pod, Internet etc are a milestone and these gadgets have
newlineplayed significant roles in the growth and propagation of Carnatic
newlinemusic.
newlineThe introduction of All India Radio opened new vistas in the
newlinefield of audio music. All India Radio s role in preserving and
newlinepropagating Indian classical music is laudable. It has not only
newlinepresented the well-known artists but also brought the budding artists
newlineto the fore. The name and fame of an artist spreads more quickly
