Abstract

This thesis analyses Tagore s evolution of musical thought and revisits his newlinemusical scholarship through the frameworks of mimesis and alterity as modes of colonial newlineknowledge production and demonstrates how Tagore posited himself not as a colonial subject, newlinebut as an equal of his colonial masters, and aspired to become a sovereign of his imaginary musical world.
