Abstract

This thesis examines the themes of conflict, identity, and insecurities within selected novels by Anita Desai, exploring these issues through a feminist lens. Anita Desai, a prominent Indian author, intricately portrays the lives of women who grapple with societal expectations, personal insecurities, and the pursuit of self-identity amidst deeply rooted patriarchal structures. The study investigates the psychological and emotional struggles of Desai s female characters, analysing how conflicts both internal and external shape their identities and contribute to their insecurities. By exploring into Desai s portrayal of feminist themes, this research highlights the intersection between gender, social roles, and personal agency. Furthermore, the thesis explores how Desai s characters reflect broader issues faced by women in India, including oppression, lack of autonomy, and identity crises.
