ABSTRACT
newlineBackground and objectives
newlineThe sciatic nerve in Popliteal fossa is Popliteal sciatic nerve block for
newlinesurgeries below the knee. Ultrasound guidance reduces the complication, improved
newlinequality of regional block. Subpar neural injection produces better success rate and
newlineincreased duration of blockade. Lignocaine is commonly used local anaesthetics and
newlineadrenaline prolongs the duration of drug. Addition of buprenorphine increases local
newlineanesthetic effect. The primary objective is to compare duration of sensory blockade in
newlineultrasound guided Popliteal sciatic block by low vs conventional 1.5 %lignocaine.
newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS
newlineA NON inferiority trial was employed involving 40 patients. Patient was
newlinerandomized into 2 groups. Group 1 had 1.5% lignocaine and adrenaline 16ml. Group
newline2 10ml 1.5% lignocaine with adrenaline. This Non inferiority trial include ASA 1, 2
newlineand3 undergoing lower limb surgeries. Popliteal sciatic nerve block performed using
newlineUltrasound guidance in lateral approach. Sensory block evaluated by pin prick,
newlineduration of sensory block and patient satisfaction was documented
newlineRESULT
newlineThe result indicated that low volume 1.5% lignocaine with adrenaline 10ml is
newlinesufficient compared to conventional volume 16ml 1.5% lignocaine. Low volume
newlineproduced efficient duration of block and helps in reduction of neurotoxicity.
newlineDemographic data, anesthetic protocols, and parameters were established.
newlineCONCLUSION
newlineStudy concluded that duration of low volume 10ml 1.5% lignocaine with
newlineadrenaline was Non inferior to Conventional volume 16ml lignocaine 1.5%with
newlineadrenaline in Ultrasound guided popliteal sciatic nerve block.
