International Legal Framework for Eradication of Torture with Special Reference to India

Abstract

The thesis titled quotInternational Legal Framework for the Eradication of Torture with Special Reference to Indiaquot focuses on the effectiveness of current international legal frameworks in combating torture and assesses the state of India s domestic legal regime. Particular attention newlineis given to marginalized sections of society, who are disproportionately affected by custodial newlinetorture due to their socio-economic vulnerability. Furthermore, the thesis explores the impact of India s non-ratification of key international instruments, such as the United Nations Convention Against Torture (UNCAT), on its domestic legal landscape. By investigating newlinesystemic shortcomings, including the lack of organizational support for law enforcement and investigating authorities, the thesis critically examines how these deficiencies contribute to the persistence of torture within the country.
