The sophistication which has more recently been possible through increasingly powerful newlineprocessing devices and heightened software skills has resulted in an increasing trend towards the newlinedevelopment of embedded CNC machines involving a combination of mechanics, electronics, newlineand software.During the initial stages of design it is essential to consider quality and x-abilities newlinerelated issues in evaluation of different materials for machining. newlineIn this work, quality, performance, decision making, and concurrent engineering based newlinemathematical tools in modeling, analysis, evaluation, ranking and selection of a material for newlineCNC turning were developed. The focus was on quality, x-abilities and optimal selection related newlineissues, which would be of great value for the manufacturing industry to thrive in the current, newlinehighly competitive market scenario. The experimental investigation was carried out to address newlinethe quality issues related to CNC turning for steam turbine blade materials.A new direction for quality modeling and analysis of a CNC turning center was proposed. newlineThe quality of a machined material on a CNC turning center is decided by its conformance to newlinerequirements. The voice of the customer should be translated to technical requirements and these newlineshould be satisfied/met at different levels i.e. subsystem, sub-subsystem up to component level. newlineIn the process of implementing quality at subsystem level, quality interactions among the sub newlinesystems are also important. A mathematical model which considers subsystems along with their newlineinteractions simultaneously was proposed.A quality graph for a CNC turning center was newlinedeveloped and was translated into quality matrix and finally a variable permanent function was newlineobtained.
