Abstract
The present proposal of study is designed for the development and evaluation for effective management of liver diseases using some of the Indigenous plants viz; Phyllanthus niruri. The coarsely powdered shade dried plant materials selected for the hepatoprotective activities were subjected for extraction with different solvent system. The extracts after concentration is first subjected for preliminary physical and phytochemical investigation to assess the quality of plant material and understand the nature of active constituents present.
newlineHepatoprotective activity is performed against CCl4 , paracetamol, ethanol and INH- RIF induced hepatotoxic rats. There were 36 groups with 6 animals in each groups treated with AEPN, AQEPN, EEPN (500 mg/kg, p.o) extrectes and silymarin (25 mg/kg, p.o) was used as standard. Results of phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of various phytoconstituents like glycosides, carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, sterols, triterpenes, total phenolic compound, flavonoids and saponin. Phytoconstituents like flavonoids, terpinoids, glycoside, saponins are known to possess hepatoprotective activities in animals.
newlineThe results of the all the hepatoprotective activities were encouraging and showed promising hepatoprotective activity.
