Abstract
The research experimentally investigated the causes and prevalence of malnutrition and
newlineits related diseases among the fishing community in the Sundarbans. Fishing is the most
newlinepredominant source of subsistence in this region. The sedentary lifestyle hinders fishing
newlinecommunities from leading a healthy, wealthy lifestyle and forces them to suffer from major

newline267 females. The former participants are natives of 10 villages under Gosaba, Kakdwip
newlineand Namkhana CD blocks under purposive sampling. The core objectives of the study are
newlineto find out the nutritional problem faced by fishing community of these blocks at present;
newlineto bring out the nutritional deficiencies and its effect on their life; to compare nutritional
newlinestatus of fishing communities with Indian Standard Level; to find out real causes of their
newlinemalnutritional problems and lastly to root out their malnutritional problems and suggest
newlineproper remedial measures. The study was conducted using both qualitative and
newlinequantitative methods along with case study. The case study was adopted to capture views
newlineof respondents from their perception. Data was collected from respondents using an
newlineinterview schedule consisting of both open and close ended questions. The subjects were
newlineinterviewed through direct face-to-face interview method. The overall aim of study was to
