Studies on nitrogen management based on leaf colour chart LCC and chlorophyll meter in rice wheat cropping system

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) - wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cropping system (RWCS) is the most dominating cropping system in the Indo-Gangetic Plains (IGP) and occupies 12.3 M ha area in India. It accounts for approximately 58% of total area and 77% of total food grain production of the country. However, the sustainability of rice and wheat production under RWCS has witnessed a significant slowdown in last few years due to over and untimely applications of fertilizer nitrogen (N). newline
