Abstract
Stress is the consequence of failure of an organism, human or animal to
newlinerespond appropriately to emotional or physical threats, weather actual or imagined. It
newlineis a process by which we perceive and cope with environmental threats and challenges
newline(Myers and Health, 2005). The involvement of adolescents in getting instant
newlinegratification of needs has led to lot of stress in them and in their relationships with
newlinefamily and peers. In this study, stress management and quality of sleep maintenance is
newlinehighlighted by the use of mindfulness meditation and tai chi chuan, thus it makes
newlinea pleasant as well as effective, non-pharmacological and cost effective intervention
newlinefor stress and sleep problems. Researcher got reviews related to mindfulness meditation and anxiety, but no
newlinestudy was done earlier to assess the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation on
newlineanxiety among visually challenged children. It was really very difficult for the
newlineresearcher to find similar studies and related study materials for the review.
newlineOn the basis of the findings of the study, the following
newlinerecommendations have been made for the further study:
newlineA comparative study can be done to assess the awareness regarding stress and
newlinesleep problems among adolescents between rural and urban community.
newlineThe present study can be conducted as a longitudinal and follow up research
newlineof mindfulness and tai chi chuan on level of stress and quality of sleep among
newlineadolescents in various settings. Limitations: 1.Sample of the study included only from selected schools
newlineSatisfaction of subject would have been measured.
newlineIt was not possible to examine other factors affecting sleep such as alertnesspromoting
newlinebehaviors such as caffeine and nicotine use
newlineThe investigator had constraints in administering the intervention to the
newlinestudent because of class test.
newline There can be information bias present as self reported questionnaire type is
newlineused.
