Abstract
The retinal components are essential to vision because they contribute to the complex process that converts light into brain impulses. In ophthalmology, the analysis of retinal components such as optic disc, macula and fovea in fundus images is essential for prognostic, monitoring, and diagnostic purposes. Examining the information from the optic disc can aid in the diagnosis of retinal disorders like diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema. Information extracted from the optic disc region is valuable in the segmentation process of hard exudates and localization of macula. Hard exudates is one of the biomarker in diabetic retinopathy and basic cause of diabetic macular edema. Due to the chronic nature of such disease, early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial for effective management.
