a study on the relationship between personality work life balance and its impact on employee performance

Abstract

newline quotBanking industry witnessed vast changes in their schemes and policy in recent years. In order to improve employee performance, it is important to determine various factors contributing towards performance. In this research, researcher identified impact of work life balance and personality traits on perceived performance of employees. Through extensive literature review, various factors of Work Life Balance (WLB) have been identified. The major identified factors of WLB are Organizational Support, Work Pressure and Self-development. Apart from WLB, various literatures also stated that person s personality trait effects their performance. Five Factor Model of Personality (Big 5 Personality Traits) played significant role in selection and recruitment of the employee. The five factors are namely - emotional stability, extraversion, openness to experience, conscientiousness, and agreeableness. As banking industry has various middle level positions, personality traits can be used to assess the human resource and further build up better team in order to get targeted performance level. newlineA theoretical structure model was created, by integrating three variables of WLB (Work Life Balance) and five traits of personality and their impact on perceived performance is studied. Through survey method primary data has been collected. Data were acquired from employees of four major banks, through structured questionnaire model. Respondents consisted of middle-level banking employees, irrespective of their designation. These four banks have been selected on the basis of market capitalization. Three major variables i.e. organizational support, work pressure, self-development of WLB has been tested through exploratory factor analysis and further confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis Further, impact of above three variables along with Big five traits of personality have been tested on perceived performance using regression analysis. A model fit is confirmed by using structure equation modelling which confirms the impact
