Abstract
Glufosinate Ammonium caused biochemical and histopathological liver damage in
newlineWistar rats. The significant changes were noticed on body weight pattern as well as
newlinethe biochemical parameters which is the evidence of toxicity According to these
newlineresults, it is suggested that systemic pesticides exposure might cause hazardous
newlineeffects; especially at high doses to non-target organisms, including humans. However,
newlineprecautionary measures should be put in place during field application to circumvent
newlinepossible adverse effects on consumers, who are increasingly being exposed to
newlinecontamination from food and drinking water. The coadministration of Eucalyptus
newlineglobulus extract attenuated the toxic effect of pesticide. Therefore, administration of
newlineEucalyptus globulus extract may be useful, easy, and economical to protect humans
newlineexposed to Glufosinate Ammonium against their toxic effects. Thus it may act even in
newlinehumans as important constituent in potent liver tonic. Further studies should be
newlineconducted to identify the active components responsible for these activities and
newlinedetermination of synergistic effects among various compounds present in the extract.
newlineTherefore, a comprehensive study is essential before a long term exposure.
newlineSection A deals with the quality control parameters and in vitro screening of Herbal
newlinepreparations. In the present study standardization with the following parameters was
newlineconducted: Loss on drying, pH total ash, acid insoluble ash, water soluble ash,
newlineSulphated ash, water soluble extractive, alcohol soluble extractive, bulk density,
newlineforeign organic matter, identification of heavy metal, microorganisms and pesticide
newlineresidues. The quality control parameters were found in normal range given by WHO
newlineand Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia of India. It shows the standard conditions were
newlinefollowed during farming and manufacturing.ie. GAP (Good agricultural practices) and
newlineGMP (Good manufacturing practices).
newlineAfter standardization, the herbal preparations were evaluated for cell viability assays.
