Abstract
The huge size of the XML documents used in web databases
newlinenecessitates the design and development of new storage structures and
newlineretrieval methods for effective processing of XML database queries In the
newlineexisting systems on compact storage for XML two approaches namely
newlinepointer based and succinct approach are used for compactly storing XML
newlinedocuments Moreover the existing query processing algorithm used for
newlineproviding nested queries for querying intra and inter structured documents are
newlinenot supported with compact storage structure Therefore in this thesis work
newlinenew storage structures and effective querying techniques have been proposed
newlineIn this research work two new storage structures namely
newlineRedundancy Free XML storage structure RFX and Query and Update
newlinesupport for Indexed and Compressed XML QUICX have been proposed and
newlineimplemented In addition a new indexing technique has been proposed in
newlineQUICX for effective indexing and query processing Moreover a new content
newlinebased compression technique has also been proposed to reduce the size of
newlinestorage and to perform effective querying
