Abstract
An attempt has been made in historical writings entitled Rock cut cave
newlinetemples in South Tamil Nadu with special reference to architectural features . India
newlinehas a long history of Art and Architecture development which contributed to
newlinenumerous Temples spread throughout the country and the patrons were the motivating
newlineforce behind the establishment of these numerous Shiva and Vaishnava Temples in
newlineIndia. The development of Temple Architecture in India has two distinct styles
newlineclassified as North Indian or Indo-Aryan and South Indian or Dravidian style in South
newlineIndia. Most of the Temples were originated from cave to construction rulers
newlinethemselves on colossal scales. There were also minor Temples for village
newlinecommunities.
newlineThe Growth of Temple in India to promote the spirituality among the people
newlineand Rituals, Poojas and Festivals are highly celebrated in the Temple. Both Temple
newlineand religion is closely associated with each one. It could not be separated from the
newlineSociety. God and Goddesses played a vital role in the spiritualism in the universe. At
newlinethe religion is an organized collection of belief systems, cultural systems and
newlineuniversal views that related humanity to spirituality and sometimes to moral values.
newlineHindu religions have narratives, symbols tradition myths and sacred histories and
newlinepuranas that are interned to give meaning to life or to explain the origin of life or the
newlineprapancham i.e. Universe.
