| dc.description.abstract | The field of Internet of Things (IoT) promises to connect almost everything and is expected to be an integral part of 5G networks. A host of emerging networks such as smart cities, vehicular networks and augmented reality hubs will co-exist and operate simultaneously within 5G. In the view of automation, 5G networks should support peak data rates up to 20 Giga bits per second (Gbps), average data rates up to 100 Mega bits per second (Mbps) and seamless connectivity for millions of IoT devices per square kilometer with latencies ranging from 1 msto few seconds. When 5G networks are newlinedesigned to meet such huge service expectations, energy consumption becomes a critical issue. So, for a sustainable evolution into 5G networks, it becomes critically important for future wireless technologies to not only address the multifold growth in service expectations but also to operate at reduced power consumption. In a wireless communication system energy efficiency can be achieved either by maximizing the system throughput or minimizing the power consumption. The familiar Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) technique is used in Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Long Term Evolution - Advanced (LTE-A) systems to increase the throughput as the transmitter can spatially multiplex parallel streams of data over the same radio resource newline newline | |
