Abstract
Transformers perform the function of isolation in power electronic circuits by
newlinepreventing system transients at input or output side from affecting the other side. But
newlineusage of traditional transformers is not practical in many power electronic applications
newlinedue to their associated high volume and weight. Hence, high frequency transformers were
newlineintroduced which ensured that the same power was transferred with a transformer having
newlinea lower profile, volume and weight. However, wire-wound transformers operating at a
newlinehigh frequency pose several challenges like heating problems, higher winding losses, and
newlineparasitic effects.
newlinePlanar magnetics is an emerging technology that employs planar windings instead
newlineof wire windings, thereby enabling a better thermal design, compact structure and easy
newlinerepeatability. Planar transformers are commonly utilized in switched mode isolated power
