Allelopathic Effect and Provenance Characterization Pongamia pinnata L and their Suitability in Black Gram Intercropping System

Abstract

The present investigation was conducted to study the tree crop interaction under newlinePongemia provenances and black gram based agroforestry and to know the allelopathic newlinepropensity of aqueous leaf extract of Pongamia on black gram. The focus was also to assess newlinegenetic diversity among ten systematically characterized candidate plus trees of Pongamia newlinepinnata from Rahuri and Dharwad. The experiment was conducted during kharif 2019 and newline2020 at Main Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad. The effort was also done on the newlinedetection of molecular polymorphism of ten species used in the present study along with newlineeleven additional species of same Pongamia provenances by using random amplified newlinepolymorphic DNA markers (RAPD). newlineThe treatment sole crop recorded significantly higher morphological and growth newlineparameters viz., plant height, number of branches per plant, leaf area, leaf area index, AGR. newlineCGR, LAD and dry matter accumulation followed by RAK-9 + Blackgram and RAK-1 + newlineBlackgram treatment recorded the lowest. As light, is a primary limiting factor in tree-based newlineintercropping systems, in the present study the growth and development of intercrop differed newlinesignificantly. Similar trend was also recorded with respect to the yield and yield contributing newlinefactors like pod weight per plant, number of pods per plant, number of seed per pod, pod newlinelength, straw yield, teat weight and seed yield. Biophysical and biometric parameters of black newlinegram under tree- crop interaction particularly, photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, light newlinetransmission rate, SPAD and soil moisture showed the similar trend as morphological and newlinegrowth parameters. newlineThe leaf extract of Pongamia pinnata has affected the seedling root length, shoot newlinelength, total seedling length, seedling dry weight, germination per cent, seedling vigour and newlinemobilization efficiency also black gram. Root length was recorded highest in control only newlinewater and least was recorded in RAK-1 + black gram followed by in T10 and T7. Where as in newlinecase of shoot length the treatments control recorded h
