newlineThe crux of the research was to develop a maximum understanding of the theoretical and
newlinepractical perspectives of the Social Capital that has rendered a pivotal role globally and locally
newlinein addressing the ominous needs of the people in pre-, during, and post-disaster situations from
newlinethe time immemorial. The Wold Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction developed framework
newlinei.e. Hyogo Framework for Action from 2005 to 2015 and from the year 2015 - 2030 that aimed
newlineto develop and strengthen the capacities of people in all aspects of life and reduce potential risk
newlineand losses in lives, livelihood, physical, social and environmental assets of individuals, families
newlineand communities (UN-ISDR, 2005), (UNSFDRR, 2015). Similarly One of the Sustainable
newlineDevelopment Goals i.e. Climate Action (goal no 13) (Murshed 2015), World Humanitarian
newlineSynthesis Report- October 2015 (WHS Secretariat 2015), Secretary General s Report in
newlinepreparation for the World Humanitarian Summit (UN General Assembly 2016), UN-Habitat
newlineIII, October 2016 (UN Habitat 2016) and the IFRC World Disasters Report 2016 (IFRC 2016)
newlinealso focused seriously towards the community to reduce risk instead of strengthening
newlineinfrastructure.
newlineSocial capital known as one of the social assets is one of the most important resources for
newlinemanaging risk and crisis situation at the families, individuals, groups, association and at the
newlinecommunity level from concentrating themselves from relief and reactive system to preventive
newlineand preparedness measures which sooner or later act as disaster risk reduction measure.
newlineFrom the local intervention to the international integration, intervention and coordination, there
newlineis a strong body of evidences, best practices documented across the world that social capital
newlinewith its abundance resources of mutual cooperation, support, shared values, mutual
newlineunderstanding and trust and solidarity achieved substantial results in reducing risk of disasters
newlineand managing it with relief, response, rehabilitation and restoration measures.
