Abstract
The present study aimed to identify the efficacy of cognitive behaviour therapy on body image,
newlineemotional competence and self esteem among college students. The present research used before, after
newlineand follow-up experimental research design without control group. The College Students who showed
newlinewillingness were administered by Body Image Perception Scale, Emotional Competence Scale and
newlineMultidimensional Self Esteem Inventory. Forty Eight College Students who scored high on body
newlineimage and low on emotional competence and self esteem were screened. The selected College
newlineStudents were administered Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for 15 sessions (2 sessions per week for 3
newlinemonths). The efficacy of cognitive behaviour therapy was assessed on post and follow-up phases. The
newlineresults revealed that a significant difference was found between before, after and follow-up phases for
newlinethe Somatic Nervousness, Adequate Depth of Feelings, Adequate Emotional Expression and Control
newlineof Emotions, Ability to Function with Emotions, Ability to Cope with Problem Emotions and Ability
newlineto Enhance Positive Emotion of the College Students. Also, significant difference was found between
newlinebefore and after intervention in Bodily Distress, Somatic Negative Feelings, Body Image, Cognitive
newlineDistortions, Global Self Esteem, Competence, Lovability, Likeability, Self Control, Personal Power,
newlineMoral Self Approval, Body Appearance, Body Functioning, Identity Integration and Defensive Self
newlineEnhancement but no significant differences in after and follow-up phase among the College Students.
newlineCognitive Behaviour Therapy was found to be effective in bringing a desirable change among the
