Parkinson s disease in a chronic neurodegenerative disorder caused due to the death of newlinedopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) region of the newlinemidbrain resulting in the depletion of dopamine level in striatum. It is the most common newlinemovement disorder affecting about 3% of population aged above 60 years. Researches newlineconducted over the years have highlighted various cellular dysfunctions contributing in the newlinepathogenesis of PD including lewy body formation, mitochondrial respiration defect, newlineneuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and excitotoxicity. newlineVarious cell culture models and animal models of PD have been developed using newlineenvironmental neurotoxins including rotenone, 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA), and 1-methyl- newline4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). The charged metabolite of MPTP is 1-methyl-4- newlinephenylpyridinium (MPP+) acting as the main toxic agent against the DA neurons in the brain newlineof MPTP-intoxicated in vivo models newline
