Abstract
Concrete is the most preferred construction material in India. The grade of concrete normally used for construction work is M20, M25 and M30. The compressive strength of the concrete is assessed by conducting cube test at 7 and 28 days. Most of the new construction as well existing construction experiencing distress and crack due to various reasons such as poor quality of material, poor workmanship and ageing of structures etc.,. Non Destructive Test (NDT) like Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), Rebound hammer and semi-destructive test like core test are employed to ascertain the quality of the distress concrete structures. The core test results are highly reliable when compared to other destructive testing techniques. The presence of reinforcement in the core affects the strength and in many cases due to the variation of the different core strength, the sampling itself gets rejected as per IS 516: 1969.
