newlineABSTRACT
newlineWorld Health Organization (WHO) has given a special attention to use medicinal
newlineplants and their products for better health care of mankind. Hence medicinal plants act
newlineby multiple mechanisms like, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-
newlineurolithiatic potentials. Presently urinary calculi invite a special attention from medical
newlinefraternity due to the complexity in its pathogenesis as well as relapse rate. In the
newlinemodern medicine, advanced equipments and surgical techniques have failed to trace
newlineout the factors behind the urolithiasis and till today no advanced system that has been
newlinedeveloped will have the capacity to remove or to avoid the recurrence of stone
newlineformation. In the present scenario, whatever medications are preferred for the
newlineeffective management of urolithiasis are invariably associated with undesirable effects
newlinewhich ultimately results in termination of therapy by the patients. Hence, medicinal
newlineplants has given a significant contribution for development of natural bioactive agents
newlinewith more potent biological activity.
newlineAim and Objectives: To evaluate anti-urolithiatic potential of Nerium oleander Linn.
newlineand Cucumis sativus Linn. in ethylene glycol induced urolithiasis in experimental
newlineanimals. Separation and identification of phytochemical agents from hydro- alcoholic
newlineextracts with various chromatographic techniques.
newlineMethodology: The selected Indian medicinal plants i.e. Nerium oleander Linn. and
newlineCucumis sativus Linn were collected from Belagavi region. The extraction was
newlineperformed by cold maceration technique with ethanol (95%) and water in the ratio of
newline(70:30). The standardization parameters and preliminary phytochemical investigation
newlinewere carried out for identification of phytoconstituents. The LD
