Abstract
assessed that 8% of the earth layer is filled with aluminium. The
newlineabundant availability, mechanical advantages and cost effective nature of this
newlinematerial makes it compete with all other materials for different applications.
newlineAluminium alloys are a perfect lightweight material with high specific
newlinestrength used far and wide in the industry for their workability, good
newlinecorrosion resistance with exceptional physical and mechanical properties.
newlineThe applications of these lightweight materials are quite important in the
newlineshipbuilding industry and automobile industries due to their performance
newlineimprovement and reduction in emission.
newlineAluminium alloy AA5083-H111 is a non-heat treatable and
newlinemajorly strain hardened aluminium-magnesium (Al-Mg) alloy. Magnesium
newlineis the primary alloying element in the AA5083-H111 with 4 to 4.90% weight
newlinerange. Aluminium alloy AA6082-T6 is a heat treatable Aluminium-
newlineMagnesium-Silicon (Al-Mg-Si) alloy. The AA6XXX series alloys have
newlinemedium strength and good formability. Magnesium and Silicon are the main
newlinealloying elements in the AA6082-T6 with 0.6 to 1.2% and 0.7 to 1.3% weight
newlinerange. These two aluminium alloys are used large and wide in the industries
newlineas similar and dissimilar alloys. Joining of non-heat treatable and heat
newlinetreatable aluminium alloys with the assistance of fusion welding process is
newlinedifficult because of the defects associated with it.
