Certain investigations on adaptive beamforming techniques in smart antennae

Abstract

In this wireless era the communication system s performance is dependent on the quality of signal reception The wireless channels become noisy with signals from a number of service providers and radio users Under these spurious conditions it is necessary to enhance the quality of a signal Antenna plays a vital role in receiving the signal with desired quality and also transmitting the signal energy with maximum directivity Conventional antennas shrink linearly with the wavelength and at some point too little energy is captured by the antenna for the system to function Larger higher gain antennas must be used and only an electronically steerable array can achieve high gain in any direction which is crucial for mobile systems Smart antenna or adaptive antenna arrays are the means of good reception without increasing the transmission power and spectrum The use of smart antenna becomes essential as the center frequency of wireless systems increases Smart antennae deploy digital signal processing techniques to acquire the smartness Desired signal can be spatially filtered out from the messy wireless channel with improved gain while rejecting the interferences using spatial diversity technique This filtering process in the spatial domain using an antenna array is known as array beamforming newline
