Analysis of renal arterial pattern and calyceal system in kidney donors using 64 slice computed tomography angiography

Abstract

The extra-renal and intra-renal arterial pattern of single renal artery, newlinemultiple renal artery, accessory renal artery, aberrant renal artery will give newlinenew information. This comparative study between the arterial pattern and newlinecalyceal system gives dimensional view to urologist, interventional radiologist, newlinenephrologist, and other clinicians. A detailed description, as well as the newlineanatomical relationship of extra-renal and intra-renal arteries are utmost newlineimportant for performing endourologic procedure and also for renal newlinetransplantation surgery. newlineHence there is a need to study the intra-renal arteries and their newlinerelationship of calyceal system showing how to perform safe percutaneous newlinenephrostomy procedure by keeping many renal vessels as possible intact newlineduring puncture. Such variations can be helpful to preserve healthy renal newlinefragment to provide equal benefits in conservative operations instead of going newlinefor total and partial nephrectomy. The study could provide useful information newlineto clinician performing invasive techniques. newlineIn this study it was focused on renal donors with emphasis on newlineaccessory arteries level of origin, artery length, width, level at which newlinebranching occurs. Such a detailed description of this morphological and newlinemorphometric features clearly indicates clinical issues. This anatomical newlinefeature is essential to understand process of renal perfusion, as it is not only newlinethe number of arteries that influence the extent of renal blood supply, but newlinemost probably also the diameter. The lower infundibular length and width of upper, middle and lower newlinecalyx were also measured. The measurement of lower infundibular length and newlinenarrowest infundibular width measurements play an important role in stone newlineclearance. The study also assessed calyceal pattern and compared the newlinecalyceal pattern with the intrarenal arterial pattern which not only useful in newlinelaproscopic donor nephrectomy but also in the endovascular surgeries, newlinepercutaneous nephrotomy and percutaneous nephrolithotomic procedures newline
