dc.description.abstract Culture is a multidimensional concept within which elements like- symbols, norms, language, artifacts, values etc. are included. Renowned sociologists W. F. Ogburn and M. F. Nimkoff (1964) were discussed this concept from two aspects i.e., material culture and non-material culture. Both of these dimensions are comprised within the concept culture. In general, common beliefs, ideas, behaviour, ways of life of a particular group or community have conjointly shaped their culture. In all societies, culture is developed in such way. newlineLike material elements, norms, customs, practices etc. are also very important parts of culture. Similarly rituals are also an important attribute of culture. Rituals are viewed as the non-material part of culture. In this study I have emphasised on this non-material aspect. Especially I have discussed about the ritual practice of a particular community (i.e., Mahishya community). For proper understanding of their life-cycle rituals I have also highlighted on their different customs, beliefs, traditions and practices because I think, these have played a distinct role in shaping non-material cultural aspect of some particular community. newline
