Sustainable newlineapproaches can be used to access various heterocycles and highly functionalized newlinescaffolds, and thus have been invaluable tools in organic synthesis and drug newlinediscovery. newline Michael acceptors having an and#945;, and#946;-unsaturated carbonyl systems, commonly newlineknown as chalcones constitute an important class of pharmacological active newlinecompounds which are used for the preparation of several biodynamic and newlineheterocyclic systems and owing to their importance in organic synthesis and newlinemedicinal chemistry. Chalcones undergo reactions with a variety of bidentate newlinenucleophiles to give five, six and seven-membered heterocyclic compounds. These newlineheterocycles constitute a major share of synthetic drugs and search for a new newlineheterocyclic drug is always an intriguing subject. newline newline Our approaches towards this, involve sustainability design, synthesis and newlinebiological study of some synthesized chalcones and their derivatives. The newlinephenomenal growth of publication in this area is undoubtedly a reflection of the newlineinterest, is receiving throughout the world. newline newline Therefore the chemistry of Michael acceptors is considered to be one of the newlinemost dynamic and challenging areas of chemistry embracing a vast spectrum of newlineadvances of both theoretical and practical relevance. In view of this, during the newlinecourse of the present investigation, synthetic studies have been carried out using newlinechalcones with the aim to design and develop new synthetic routes to various newlinebioactive heterocyclic systems via sustainable approaches. A brief summary of the newlinevarious chapters in this thesis is given below. newline newline
