Abstract
The rapid progression of diabetes is one of the major concerns in the area healthcare. The presence of diabetes is identified using Diabetes Mellitus (DM) that is a metabolic condition having high blood glucose levels. It tends to damage the vital organs of the human body. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) belongs to retinal abnormality associated with long-standing diabetes. Retinopathy occurs with all diabetes level and can cause blindness if left untreated. In order to have an early identification, the patients with diabetes should examine the eye regularly. For this reason, regular retinal screening is essential for diabetic people in order to detect and treat retinal issues at initial stages. An automatic grading system is essentially required for prompt treatment since human screening and diagnosing are time consuming as well as subjective. Retinal images captured using high resolution fundus camera are used as an assessment for enhancement, classification and DR diagnosis. The problem of automatic grading of DR, is observed to be more challenging. Present methods of DR detection and its manual assessment of DR are expensive and require the trained specialists. Hence, there is a need to have an efficient diagnostic system that can provide an immediate DR detection and grading to assist the ophthalmologist during inspection.
