Abstract
close scrutiny of literature available in various scientific databases suggested
newlinethe presence of phenolic as well as flavonoidal compounds as major classes of
newlinecompounds in plant A. pungens. The review of literature suggested that no
newlinepharmacological research work related to investigate antiamnesic action of plant,
newlineso it is planned to evaluate the antiamnesic activity of the plant. Thus, the present
newlineresearch work will be planned to isolated antiamnesic compounds by bioactivitydirected-
newlinefractionation using sophisticated chromatographic technologies. Various
newlinepharmacognostic standards including qualitative and quantitative microscopic
newlinecharacters, physico-chemical parameters, TLC fingerprint profiles, phytochemical
newlinescreening and toxic residue content were generated for A. pungens aerial parts..
newlineColumn chromatography of the ethyl acetate fraction produced six pooled
newlinefractions (F1 F6) were tested for acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity. For
newlinecrystallization, the prepared clear solution was left overnight. From the solution,
newlinethe yellow crystalline powder (APV-1; 210 mg) was extracted. the chemical
newlinestructure of APV-1, which was determined to be caffeic acid based on physical
newlineappearance, UV, NMR, and IR spectrum data.
