Abstract
newline Water is a precious natural resource and its quality availability is
newlineessential for the survival of living creatures on the earth. However, rapid
newlineindustrialization, urbanization, and population are continuously degrading
newlinethe quality of water owing to addition of great amount of pollutants into water
newlinebodies. Importantly, dyeing matter discharges pollutants into water and
newlinecreates the severe environmental threat to the world. The inaccessibility of
newlinepotable water is a critical problem predominantly where the treatment
newlinesystems have been failed to eliminate the toxic metal ions, aquatic pathogens
newlineand industrial wastes.
newlineAccording to recent UN report, reliable access of clean and affordable
newlinewater is one of the most basic humanitarian goals, and is a major global
newlinechallenge for the 21st century. The fundamental requirement for water
newlinepurification is appropriate materials with high separation capacity, low cost,
newlineporosity, and reusability. In this regard, nanotechnology provides an
newlineopportunity to develop advanced materials for effective water purification by
newlineoptimizing their properties like hydrophilicity, porosity, hydrophobicity,
newlinemechanical strength, and dispersibility. Nanoparticles having great surface
newlinearea, and plays a great role in treatment of water but its agglomeration
newlinerestricts its use. However, agglomeration can be minimized by converting
newlinenanomaterials to nanocomposites.
newlineThe research and development in this domain leads to the rise of a new
newlineprocesses class called as advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), particularly in
newlinethe form of heterogeneous photocatalysis in which the light energy is
newlineconverted into chemical energy. Photocatalysis is not just fascinating tool for
newlinethe conversion of energy and also for environmental decontamination owing
newlineto its conspicuous nature. Using metal-semiconductors as photocatalyst is an
newlineeco-friendly which simulates the photosynthesis approach to speed up the
newlinechemical reactions with the involvement of light.
